Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Is this primarily a technical or a managerial conference?
  2. ICEC 2007 is an interdisciplinary conference. It is primarily intended to bring together participants from computer science, information science and technology, and business schools. Each year there is also representation from people in economics, law, communication, public affairs and other disciplines who have research interests related to electronic commerce and the Internet.
  3. How do I register?
  4. You can register via icec07.cs.umn.edu/, and click on the Registration button on the lower left side, or go directly to icec07.cs.umn.edu/registration.html. All registration is handled online.
  5. Is pre-registration required?
  6. Yes, early registration is required to have your paper included in the conference proceedings.
  7. What does conference registration include?
  8. The early conference registration fee of $625 includes keynote addresses, presentations of papers and panel discussions, and the conference proceedings. Also included are: a welcome reception on Sunday night August 19; continental breakfasts on Monday August 20, Tuesday August 21, and Wednesday August 22; lunches each of the three days; a reception on Monday night August 20 and a banquet on Tuesday night August 21. The early student conference registration fee includes the same benefits. Other one-day registrations and guest registrations for the events are available as choices on the registration webpage.
  9. How are conference badges and packets obtained?
  10. These will be available at the conference registration located in the Carlson School of Management near to the conference auditorium and meeting rooms at 321 19th Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55438. The registration desk will be open on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 30 minutes prior to the start of conference sessions. It will also be open on Sunday from 8:00am till 5:00pm, when two research symposia will be held. Please arrive early and present photo identification. Students will be required to show their university student IDs if they registered at the student rate.
  11. Where will my Sunday research symposium be held? How do I register for that?
  12. There are two research symposia that will be held from 8:00am to 5:00pm on Sunday, August 19 in the Carlson School of Management building at 321 19th Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55438. You can register for your symposium and for ICEC 2007 simultaneously when you arrive. The symposia are: (1) the International Symposium on E-Commerce and E-Business in China (SEEC 2007)," and (2) the "International Symposium on Services-Oriented Technology and Management (SOTM 2007)." Registration for the Sunday symposia is covered in the general registration for ICEC 2007. No one-day registrations are available for these symposia. To register, go to the home page for ICEC 2007 (icec07.cs.umn.edu), click on the Registration button on the lower left side, and then you will be able to register for ICEC 2007.
  13. Where can I find additional detailed information about these Sunday symposia?
  14. Please direct any questions you may have regarding these symposia to the ICEC 2007 Sunday Symposium Liaison, Ryan Sougstad (rsougstad@csom.umn.edu). The programs for these symposia will be posted at the following websites, when they are ready.
  15. Are there travel grants to attend ICEC 2007, SOTM 2007 or SEEC 2007?
  16. No, there are no travel grants available this year.
  17. I have already registered, and now I want to book my hotel. Where should I stay?
  18. There is a special rate of $105 per night for the conference attendees at the Holiday Inn Minneapolis Metrodome. The hotel is conveniently located in walking distance from the conference site. Details are available on the icec web page at Conference Site

  19. How do I book my hotel room?
  20. Online booking is best for hotel stays between the dates of August 18, 2007 and August 22, 2007. Go to the hotel homepage at www.metrodome.com and enter your reservation information. The special rate is $105.00 for one king-size bed or two double beds. The deadline to book at the discounted rate is Tuesday, July 17th. The Group Booking Code is "IC7." To receive the special conference rate include the Group Booking Code "IC7" in the appropriate box. After clicking on "Availability Search" you will be taken to the Holiday Inn reservations page with the group rate where you will complete your reservation with your credit card.
  21. What if I wish to arrive earlier or stay later than the conference dates?
  22. If you wish to arrive earlier or stay later than the conference dates you should make a separate reservation for those dates by calling in your reservation to the hotel. The booking system is not set up to accept earlier dates, and will tell you that "no rooms are available."   23. I am already registered, and now I need assistance to apply for a visa.
  24. The organizers of ICEC 2007, SEEC 2007 and SOTM 2007 are not able to directly assist registrants with their visa applications. We are happy to provide you with a letter stating that you are registered for the conference, however, and you may find this useful to support your visa application. Please send an email message to Donna Sarppo at dsarppo@csom.umn.edu with the subject title "ICEC 2007 Invitation Letter Request." Make sure to include your full name and address. You will receive this letter in PDF format by email.
  25. I learned about this conference and I would like to present my work there. What can I do?
  26. Papers were submitted, reviewed and accepted during Winter and Spring 2007. Only papers that have been accepted previously can be presented at the conference. Consider submitting a paper for ICEC 2008.
  27. Is this an annual conference? If so, where will this conference be held next year?
  28. Yes, this is an annual conference. Next year's event will be held in Vienna, Austria sometime in August or September 2008, with the dates to be announced.   29. Whom should I contact if my institution would like to host ICEC in the future?
  30. The organizers of the conference welcome proposals from interested institutions. Please present your proposal by no later than August 15, 2007 to host the conference in 2009. You can send your proposal directly to Professor Jae-Kyu Lee, Dean of the KAIST Business School, Seoul, Korea (jklee@business.kaist.ac.kr) and to Professor Robert J. Kauffman, W. P.
